Got mine today! Watched the video. It looks pretty straight forward. I like Taby's idea on crossing the lines to give sailing tiller performance but could be confusing with the other 3 teammates (we have 2 TI's) who are new to sailing. I think we will stick with the standard. Can't wait to install it. Thanks Hobie! |

Thanks Hobie. As I went out to lunch there was a package on the porch, wow "it's a new rudder". Now can't wait to install it. Must watch video. Lets see...crossing lines? Ok, got to think about this does this mean push tiller to port turn to port? |

Ok, new rudder is necessary, but what about my expensive Hobie TI boat cover that's less than 4 months old. With the new rudder I can't leave rudder in down position (for obvious reasons)...can't leave rudder in up position and still use the boat cover for travel. Matt do you have any suggestions because I do like to travel with the cover on to protect my TI investment and to keep fingers of of my stuff when getting gas or stopping for lunch? |

Hi Matt. I never registered my boat and I'm a bit unclear on what that implies? Will it only result in the rudder being sent to my dealer insted of being sent directly to me or will I also have to wait longer for it? I live in Sweden by the way if that makes a difference. |

(can't retrofit the new rudder) Why wishful thinking? the rudder was/is an issue with the 2009 AI's also, why should they be left out? some will still be under warranty and others only just out, and the rudder was identified by Hobie as an issue before any were out of warranty! |

The transom on the 2011 AI's (where the rudder mounts) is completely different from the 2010 and earlier AI's. It almost impossible to change the older transoms or the newer rudders to be compatible with each other.some will still be under warranty and others only just out, and the rudder was identified by Hobie as an issue before any were out of warranty! I have 4 older AI's and would love the new rudder too!

I recieved my new rudder this weekend and installed it so that the rear hatch is not blocked. Matt what is the reason Hobie has the old steering lines cut instead of just attaching them to the new rudder? The overall system is still only as strong as the thinner line currently in the hull. I went out on a trial run with the new rudder and when a large gust hit the boat, I was able to bear off and increase speed where the old rudder would have loaded up and lost control. The ability to use the rudder in shallow water is an appreciated bonus as well. Thanks for the much needed upgrade.

The threading of the lines to the rudder was considered more difficult for users in the field. The lines inside are PLENTY strong. The Spectra has HUNDREDS of pounds breaking strength. We upgraded the new system out of an over abundance of caution. |
