Three people in a TI

Tramps must be unsnapped and rolled up to fold in the amas. This is a bit of a hassle.

I use a trailer for my TI. If launching from a ramp to a dock I prefer to open the amas and set the tramps before I roll the TI into the water. Once the boat is tied to the dock I step onto the tramp to board. I've had no problem doing this but there have been several posts regarding tramp clips snapping under heavy loads which could be exciting if you were stepping off a dock onto the tramps. I weigh 180 and avoid leaping, just step carefully onto the tramp and grab the mast for support.

To open and retract amas without tramps is easy on the water but mounting the tramps and tightening them while afloat requires some acrobatics. The tightening tabs are a bit shorter than I'd like (I think they're stretching) so I've used vice grips to snug them. I bet a Hobie Fish Grip would work well.

I've read some posts that in very high winds the tramps can "catch air" so single handing may be better from up front to avoid too much bow lift in those conditions.

The tramps don't add any hassle to trailering or launching the TI.

They can be installed on the akas at home, and will sit there out of the way until needed.

This is much like single handing the TI, my wife was simply riding along in the back seat and taking photos. On this day we started out with the tramps wrapped.

It's easy to unroll and install the tramps on the water -- simply roll up the sail and go to work [at this point, she was tired of sitting in the back and wanted to get out onto the tramp].

Stowing the tramps just involves reversing the process.

I take Passengers on the AI on the Tramps all the Time.. Took a Buddy bottom fishing 4 miles offshore for most of the day last saturday. avg 6 Knots on the way back in to the waterway. Yes the boat is slower heavy laden and there is more water in the drivewell area... But it does fine. Take 3 on the TI if you want..

Agreed, totally agreed.
We use our boats in all sorts of ways. We all know basic physics, the heavier the boat, the lower it sits in the water and the speed loss will be a direct result.

If you are a social sailor, I doubt it matters little.

I'm a solitary sailor as all my boats until now, that I bought until the AI, were always doubles.

Life changes.

All I want now is to truly push this AI as fast as it can possibly go.

A new Contour HD/GPS, 4 camera system will see where the bonuses/flaws are. (and possible improvements to get the mods to get a planing hull working)

I'll keep you posted when all the parts (and the vids) come together.

I've been wondering about the feasibility of going out with three good sized adults. I'm about 200 lbs, husband 185. We want to get the tramps and hope to occasionally be able to take out our adult daughter, about 190. So, we'd definitely be maxing out the weight limit on the boat. We don't go out on long trips, mostly just to get out on the water and see if we can catch a breeze, so as long as we didn't break anything, we'd be okay putting up with a slow slog and some discomfort.

I was originally thinking we'd put daughter on the tramps, but then would she have to keep stepping over the front passenger every time we come about?

Or looking at Blue Hen's pics here, it might make more sense to have a passenger on either tramp, and one of us in the back.

Has anyone tried this with three good sized people?

Not with 3 adults but with 2 adults a 12, 9, and 2 year old...yes. Our 12 year old daughter might as well be an adult at 5' 3" and 110 lbs. I'm pushing 240 and my wife is 150ish. When the oldest is in the leeward tramp the ama runs a little deeper, but we don't make her change sides on different tacks.
