I've been dreaming about getting an AI. Was wondering if the amas can be positioned to stay part way open; or do they only lock full open or full closed.

Larry, Akas only "lock" while in the full open 90 degree position.

You could change this by drilling and inserting a second braceball further back on the hull. But many of us here are scratching our heads trying to figure out why you would want to do this. It would likely decrease stability and speed while sailing.

Although, on the "flip side", this would add some floatation to the rear of the craft for carrying larger loads or passengers.

Remember, you can always take the AI out with no Amas or just one for paddle/pedal trips. It's a very versatile sailyak.

why, you ask, for stability in narrower streams while pedaling with my dog aboard. looks tippy without the amas for stability.

In "Adventure mode" as we call it... no amas...no mast?

The Adventure hull is stable on it's own. Depending on the weight of the two of you and how well the dog stays in one place, you can do it without amas. Add the mast and sail, you NEED the amas.

Sure- you could just fold them and hold them in with the bungies for a paddle. Just not safe to sail it that way.

Tramps are a dogs best friends. They only work in the fully-extended mode though.

Gringo's dawg, Dooley will back me up on that,..
