would the couple changes made to the 2012 AI make it worth it if one can get a 11 at a discount? both have the same rudder, correct?

Yes - both have the same rudder, if they don't you can upgrade to the new style - but all 2011 either have the new style, or were upgraded for free...so even if that boat doesn't have it - you can get it and have it installed for free.

As far as I know, the only difference between the '11 and '12 AI are the slots in the mirage drive well that allow for an "earier" install of the mirage drive. The '11 doesn't have them.

I bought a "used" '11 that had a replaced '12 hull at a discount. I think it was well worth it. However, keep in mind your 2 yr warranty.

I have two 2011's No dramatic changes that I have read of unless you buy used. Hobie includes every bell and whistle you will likely need provided you buy from an authorized dealer not some idiot on line that shorts you in the sale.

Hobie price fixes. This is an absolute fact be it good or bad. I cannot tell you how many times I needed some silly little part for my "I broke it box" only to get stuck by an authorized dealer.
I hope one day Hobie will get some more or bring back the reputable ones they had in my area.
