I don't have any local Hobie dealers around me. I’m thinking about getting the Tandem Island from an online shop or one of the US dealers. 1. Which dealer or online store do you recommend? 2. How much did you pay for your TI and where? I see Amazon selling them in the $5250 range... 3. Which color is faster?

I paid 5250 plus another 360 or so for my tramps. try a yellow hull with a red sail, worked wonders on my AI before i got an all yellow TI. all the ladies will follow u with yer hull, and the sail will speed you away to safety when the situation starts to get out of hand!

You might want to check your local Craigslist too. That's where we found ours (being sold by a dealer 2 hours away). We paid about $6,300 for a slightly used 2011, some new tramps plus a new trailer. And we got the faster red

Dune is faster -- and cheaper. Paid $5,000 American for my 2012 TI at the Seattle Boat Show in January. Was going to buy one anyway, so I took advantage of the show price. I think they normally sold it for $250 more than that. You might find boat shows in your area with similar discounts. That was the boat only price. But they also offered 10% off any accessories purchased within a certain time period. I also bought a TrailX trailer. I'd do so again in a heartbeat, even though in my opinion it needed some modification. Being aluminum it is light weight and corrosion resistant. It is sturdy and well made and their tech support is excellent and prompt. If you do go the TrailX route, I have 2 suggestions: 1) Do not get the SUT-350-AIT recommended for the TI by Hobie, because it is not long enough to store the TI. The back end hangs off 4 to 6 feet. Sun-E-Sailor on this forum has a recent posting about one with a longer tongue that he put 3 cross bars and cradles on. It is the SUT-350-S 2) With either the SUT-350-AIT or the SUT-350-S, I recommend lowering the tongue (and thus the boat) by moving the tongue from above the frame to under the frame. This modification will allow you to float the boat back on the trailer rather than lift it on. That is a huge benefit for those of us with problem backs. There was a thread earlier on prices paid for TIs. Here is what I posted there: $5748 in April in Florida Includes: Dune TI Trampolines 2-wheel cart Air shipment to Detroit (~$200) It was still cheaper for me to buy it in Florida and ship it to Detroit than to buy locally. The TackleShack in St. Petersburg sells lots and lots of these boats. I don't use the 2-wheel cart, so I could have saved ~$200. The TackleShack used an air shipment service (Forward Air) to get the TI to Detroit. I picked it up at their terminal, strapped it to the roof of my Ford Excursion, and hauled it to our cottage. It comes in some very large boxes, so you need a big vehicle to move it. It is a pile of fun. |
