Should someone 5'10" - 240# and built like a 1950's linebacker be looking at a AI or a TI for purely recreational solo sailing? With the weight limitations of the AI I was just a little concerned, but I would also like to save the cash difference. Would like to hear from others of my size. Frank |

Frank having had both an AI and now a TI, I can confirm that the AI sitts a lot lower in the water when loaded with the same weight of gear and me (although I am not quite that big). The TI when sailing solo is far more buoyant and stable whith a lot of gear aboard. But it is also a lot bigger boat and best transported on a trailer. Tonystott also purchased a TI for the same reason you are thinking of and he might be able to give you some good feedback. |

We regularly load our AIs to the max and maybe a bit more on our camping trips, and don't have any problems. On our last major trip I accidentally flooded my my hull and still sailed and pedaled a mile to shore. You can read about it at http://www.hobiecat.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=70&t=7276&start=180 Scroll down until you see the picture story entitled: Chokoloskee to Flamingo, Jan 16-23, 2012 An Inauspicious Beginning: One Sunken AI, One Empty Bottle of Scotch Keith |

I had the same dilemma, weighing well over 300#, so I bought a TI (also because I like the inclusive nature of a two seater). I have sailed my TI with over 650# on board, well over rated capacity, and apart from the rear crew sitting in 4" of water, the TI didn't notice at all. |
