We use 1 1/4 pvc to make the "aka pvc connection"

Nice, but it would be even nicer if you could hook the Islands together farther apart, by fastening the Islands amas to each other. The sails wouldn't compete as much with each other for the wind, less water would get into the Islands, you would get more space on board and you could even rise a tent between the hulls, if you have trampolines. You would also bring two complete Islands onto the sea, instead of two crippled but joined Islands.

Have someone tried it? Time to do it, otherwise!

The massive potential problem of course is the huge stress generated through any connecting beams by each hull being in different wave profiles. The hulls would need major reinforcement at the connecting points

That is true if the connection is stiff, but in case the amas are connected in a loose fashion, perhaps with big rubber bands, the stress would be much smaller. I guess the Islands would follow each other pretty well even if the connection between them were rather flexible.

You might also need some kind of bumpers, as the Islands will get in touch with each other frequently.

You could also try feathers of the marine sort which yacht owners use when fastening their boats to a pier/jetty.

Another more high tech solution would be to use a couple of jointed hydraulic connections.

I slowly realize that this method was not that efficient in sailing at all, the sails would cancel out one another; it’s really just one sail doing the pushing. The set up do take a very long time to get this done the right way. It’s great to test and have a friend join you. I think that having the Tandem Island would be the way to go.
