The word "foolhardy" springs to my mind, rather than "awesome"

That's definitely a pucker factor 10 event !
I bet it took him a long time to extract the fabric when it was time to take his bathing suit off.

I would not call that a good display of seamanship. There are times where he is at limits of stability and not truly in control of his boat. If he flips in that shallow water major damage would occur. Mast will plant its self in the sand bottom and things will break. I have had my boat in a few hair raising instances, but not for long. Change course, reef the sail and shift your weight. There is always a position with less impact.

If he knew what he was doing, he wouldn't be trying to head into a 25 knot onshore wind under full sail. The only way he could get any help from the sail would be to head at more than 60 degrees to the wind, which is also side-on to the waves.............

Actually, he has a little reef in his sail. About one rotation at the base but the high winds have pulled the top of the sail out which explains the constant flutter of the top of the sail.

This guy is an idiot

The old Hobiecat 14 and 16 would eat those conditions.
Looks a bit like the bar at Forster Tony

Not wrong Dave! But when the bar is like that I sail >inside< the lake. The utter lack of empty boat trailers near the ramp is a good giveaway!

I don't know about anyone else, but whenever I get into anything close to these conditions I start popping rudder pins on my TI, has anyone else noticed with the new larger rudders on the TI, an increase in rudder pin breakage. I have broken 3 in the last 7 months.

In addition the sheer pins on my AKA arms always seem to sheer whenever I get into heavy conditions like this, has anyone else had this problem.

My point being, the guy in this video "with no PFD on" is likely not aware that the boat is designed to fail in the heavy conditions he is exposing the boat to, where if the AMA sheer pins break, the AMA's will fold in and he will capsize. And if his rudder pin sheers, he will loose all rudder controls and be at the mercy of the surf and wind (not a good place to be).

I don't suppose there are any hard rules or laws regarding sailing, but if a small boat advisory is announced in your area, thats the first clue not to go out.
