I met the owner of a 2013 Tandem Island today, and he told me that his TI has got black reinforcing tubes inserted in the central scupper holes. This is apparently a running change to TIs which I had not heard reported anywhere to date. So it looks like it is now OK to use a new TI using the new trolley insert. Way to go Hobie! |

You still can't use plug in carts on TI's - you need to at least use the cradle - or preferably the full dolly. Nothing has changed in our minds - the Plug In carts are not suitable for TI use. |

Is the plug in cart not acceptable for a TI even with the little black stop collar on it? Because my dealer sure talked me into buying one with my TI back in September. I guess I'm glad that I haven't put it to much use this winter. |

I guess I'm glad that I haven't put it to much use this winter. Collar kit is not enough - you must add the cradle (part # 80044202) you risk damage from use of a plug in cart without the cradle. |

Obvious questions: Can the scupper tubes be added to existing AI/TI's? Will the new cart cradle fit an AI hull as well? |

No - the tubes are only designed to fit in boats which have had their mold re-worked to adapt - the scuppers are over-sized and the inserts screw into the scupper - it is not backwards compatible...sorry. The cradle might work okay with other models but wouldn't be a perfect fit, it's designed to fit the TI. |

Thanks- I thought so. I was going to install metal sleeves in my 08 hull, but it would have made it impossible to insert the scupper cart. Without lube that is. |

Nohuhu, Bob (fusioneng) posted how he reinforced his scuppers using PVC here: viewtopic.php?f=69&t=35341 The new cart cradle will fit an AI but will only contact the hull in the middle section between the scupper tubes. The outer hull edges will not be supported but they aren't anyway when on the scupper cart so I guess using the cradle on an AI is better than not! |

AI isn't such a problem due to how much it weighs... that's the main difference, the TI is heavy - and when left on the plug in carts it damages the hull severely - it must not be used without a cradle - or just go the dolly - AI is okay on a plug in cart - the issues are all related to TI. |

I saw that repair thread stringy. I doubt you can insert the cart after the mod though. It's tight. Thanks for clarifying the AI fit w the new cradle. Cheers. |

Nohuhu, Looks like I was wrong with the TI cradle fitting the AI hull.  I had thought that because the scupper carts fit all models that the central hull lobes would be the same but it turns out they're not. The groove between the lobes is further apart on the TI so the cradle doesn't fit well:
