OK perhaps it's time to raise the bar a bit with us Islanders.

There have been a couple of threads lately that have made me think that maybe we should have a HOBIE ISLAND BOOK OF WORLD RECORDS thread. I reckon all of us would get into it in one way or another. You have to make up what the record is before it can be broken. They have to start somewhere.

1. Who has the worlds most expensive Island. ( NOHUHU or HALIBU77 )
2. Who in the world has spent the longest period in an Island without touching land. ( Chekika, Stringy or Josh )
3. Who in the world has sailed the furthest distance solo on an Island. ( What was his name who sailed up the east coast of America ? )
4. Who in the world has caught the biggest fish on an Island. ( there may be a good debate over this one )
5. Who in the world owns the longest running thread on the Hobie Island forum ( No guesses who ).
6. Who in the world was the first to film them self in an Island while using a hand held kite. ( I know Tony has done it but was he the first ? )
7. Who in the world was the first to film them self in an Island while using a remote control helicopter. ( I reckon this is up for grabs as I don't think it's been done yet )
8. Who was the first to cross the Equator on an Island.
9. Who has sailed the furthest north on an Island.

And this is where you can stake your own claim........

10. Who has sailed the furthest south on an Island. ( ME )

See, perhaps I wasn't, but the beauty about this is we can make up our own World Records, ie the first in the world to sail an Island under Chesapeake Bay Bridge, then claim to have achieved it either by photo or trust and then others can debate it. Should finish up in a real slagging match :D :D :D OK, not all Hobie Islanders are on this forum, but this just proves that they should be.

Fancy claiming any of the above World Records or do you fancy making up a new one ?

11. The longest distance out to sea an Island has been rescued (hmmm, maybe not too many voluntary entrants in this category)

Most Supermodels onboard?

I think we know who that might be Tony. I think I'd rather see the Supermodel photo from NOHUHU than the police rescue mug shot of yourself. 8)

Seriously though NOHUHU, there wouldn't be a more expensive Island out there than the BatBoat would there ? ( or don't you want to think about it )

And Tony, were you the first to film yourself by using a kite ?

Actually Slaughter, although I DO have a kite-carried camera rig, the person who did take a photo of themselves in a TI from a kite was someone in Adelaide (sorry I forget their name).

I might well try the same thing one day myself, but as he did, I will need to have someone else sail the boat while I operate the camera rig.

On second thoughts regarding the offshore rescue thing... bad idea, as we wouldn't want someone to "win" that category by not being rescued at all...

Good point Tony.

I've always wanted to rig up a camera to an RC chopper. How 8) would that be. The price is gradually dropping for both choppers and cameras so it may be a viable proposition soon. Was it you who said you needed a licence for one ?

If you are just using one for fun, you don't need any "license", but you need a UAV Operator's Certificate for commercial activity.

Ive filmed my Ai from a hexacopter on dry land, working on the waterproof version in the moment.
Not so easy from the water, getting the copter waterproof is easy, the remote is difficult though.
Calibrating is another problem.
Filmimg from a big boat would make that easier, but would be against the spirit..

Some of the RC chopper vids are incredible. Especially some of the skiing ones. The Hobie Island in full flight would make great footage.

Are you gunna make a claim for World Record No. 4 Hollgi ? It's up for grabs. Once you make a claim, it's yours until someone can prove otherwise !

I personally think it should be done on the water
And from an AI.
Filming it on land or with the help of a stink boat
Is cheating.
So no, I only filmed it on dry land.

No, I mean World Record No.4 above. The biggest fish caught on an Island. That one in the photo must have gone close.

I reckon I could claim the 'First Hobie Island to land on Broughton Island'

...and you, me Chris, Mickey and Geoff could claim 'First Hobie Islands to Overnight on Broughton Island'

On behalf of Rob (NicNrob) I'll claim the first kite photo.
viewtopic.php?f=69&t=45888&start=0
I can certianly vouch for authenticity.
Mine is the red TI in one of the photos.
May not be the first but a start on record 6.
Re number 10, as you have provided no details, your claim is suspect.
I have been invited to Chile so will have to take the TI as hand luggage and claim that one
How about first to capsize and dump their Mrs in the water and live to tell the tale. I'm sure I wasn't the first though.
Cheers,
Brian

Oh well, if nobody else wants it, I'll take it ( for now). :D

Actually I think we have to define 'caught'.

Landed? Maybe, sure someone will come up with something bigger.

Hooked- no, that would be Josh with his Humpback Whale!
Unfortunately he didn't land it though, wonder why...
