Post subject:  Any news on 'spray-guards' for the 2011+ carry handles?

Hi there,

I'm just wondering if Hobie have any news on the 'guards' that were mentioned (I can't find the original thread) as a retro-fit item for 2011+ A.I. (and I guess any of the other 2011-onwards Mirage models).

I'm getting a bit tired of having to stuff chunks of pool-noodle along the top-edge of the handle recess to stop myself being dowsed with cold water every time I get over 6km/h.

Cheers,

Mike.

Still waiting. Original vendor is slow... new vendor can't yet find the correct UV stable foam material.

I've been using a strip of duct tape ever since I upgraded my 2009 model to 2011.

I carved a couple of plug of pool-noodle, which are doing the job, but something permanent would be better.

If there's the slightest gap, water will spray through.

I still curse (daily!) the designer of those handles. The older moulded-in ones were far better - not just the water-ingress issue. When carrying the hull on its side, the older handles were perfect - one hand in the carry-handle and one under the mesh pocket, made shifting the yak much easier. The new handle means it's slightly trickier to lift the yak comfortably, with a straight back and extended arms.

Also, on the water, the older handles were far more convenient to grip if it got lumpy and you needed something to hang onto.

Cheers,

Mike.

I can recommend Slaughter's insulation foam fix he posted above.
It works well. 8)

Great that you are onto some good ideas for simple improvements.

I have ended up making my own splash guards just at the rear of the handle. But looking at your prototype in the photo, it looks a lot neater, both the fit and the matching look to the handle.
