Looks like a HUGE TI with single fin drives. Doesn't look too much like what one thinks of when they hear "sailing", but its cool! |

Having seen the little and the big boats in person now, I have to admit they are incredibly cool, and incredibly fast. A few weeks back I watched one while stuck on the gg bridge- even from a mile or so away I could see it out accelerate its chase boats as she turned from running upwind to sprint across the bay. Was truly impressive. Bay was all froth and chop, and those chase boats just couldn't stand the pounding. |

Having sailed in traditional sailboats and now owning a couple of Hobie Islands and a Weta, I can say that sailing on foils (TriFoiler) doesn't feel even remotely the same as what most of us experience when sailing. Foiling is more similar to flying - there is no feel from the water, waves or current. Not saying it's not fun, but it's so different that I would wager that most folks that really like to sail, might enjoy foiling for a bit but wouldn't opt for steady diet of it. |

 I wonder what the crews in the original America's Cup race would think if these Cats were to sail by...same feeling I guess, if the Concorde flew over Kittyhawk in 1903?

I don't know that they would be particularly in awe. I've often heard that the Wright Brothers could never have conceived of something like a 747, but I have to disagree. I think they knew full well that extremely large aircraft could be built, once the limitations of that era's building materials and low power to weight ratio engines was overcome with better technology. The physics of flight haven't changed and neither have the physics of sailing. Designers have to build within the limits of whatever the current technology is, but most have always been able to see grander designs down the road.. |

These guys are gybing on foils (hopefully) at 35+ knots and traversing a football field every 3 seconds. Almost unthinkable. |

And to think it all started here.  Sorry to open up old wounds fellas.  That win is still fresh in our memories down this way, mainly cause our Prime Minister gave us all a day off work.
