Exactly - it wasn't designed to race, but it's certainly capable of doing that, as is.

I would already be racing mine in a mixed fleet regatta series but there are no numbers for it. So I have to use a different boat. I'd really like to put the TI out there.

Don't forget there's already a race in which the Islands compete (with some success) in a mixed fleet - the Everglades Challenge.

There you go. This is how it starts. Someone lets you in their race and then others do the same because they liked what they saw... the ball gets rolling. The key to success for race promoters is participation. If AI/TI sailors are an enthusiastic lot who will show up reliability and in good numbers... someone will figure out how to get you into their venue.

They race against others in the same class, not against the entire mixed fleet. And since they don't conform to standard US Sailing Association rules, no numbers will come from it.

I'm not throwing off on the WT - I think it's great and have considered competing, but it's not what I was posting about here.

I will also add that one area this boat is really going to appeal to is youth. My kids who have seen dad's sailboats come and go over the years have never really been interested... too slow and boring. My 21 YO son was visiting this weekend and was disappointed because he didn't get a crack at the new TI... mainly because we couldn't get friends and my wife off of it long enough to go play.

Well it depends if you're racing for the fun of it or for the official results. Everyone at the WC knows how the Islands fare against the other classes, so they are effectively vying with all the other boats for line honours.

I was specifically asking for handicap numbers so the boat can be raced in round-the-mark mixed fleet regattas. So both fun and official results.

Has anyone looked into further? Portsmouth numbers that is?
