serious question; has anyone ever used the quick strap sport rack for car topping a TI?

part number 72040 in the hobie catalog (page 18). looking to expand my TI zone this coming season and there are a few nice little islands i can take a ferry to (with a car obviously). heard that it is fun to camp at these locations too and they are about 20-25 miles away with big big ocean in between so a little too far to sail and i can't find anyone else who wants to attempt it with me so thinking about making a weekend sailing snorkeling camping trip out of it and just driving/ferry there.

or are there any good universal kayak roof racks like this one here, but not sure if it is universal or not, that would work with our TI??

this think looks like the ultimate but it is $200 and i still have to figure out how to get some roof racks installed before this thing will work. small price to pay it seems :D

sorry to be so annoying but i am excited about this and not sure why i haven't thought about it before today. so it looks like all i would need is this:

and this:

roughly $300 total.

essentially a universal-ish car rack system is the first one, followed by some mounting cradles with tie downs. my wife's car is not long at all so i think i can get the front of the boat up onto the back of the car and then pick it up and slide it up hopefully with someone (wife perhaps) just holding the back to make sure it doesn't roll back and off the car before i run around to the back.

Hi Rusty.
I think you are looking in the right direction.

I car top my TI and load from the rear so I can tow my caravan as below.
I made a frame which sits on top of the roof racks which has a roller at the back.
This allowed me to electric winch the lot into the roof of the garage for storage.
I also was happier with a pole at the front as the car, Hyudai i30, is not long.
This supports and also holds down the TI at the front so it is secure at speed.

I found I needed a frame at the back which attaches via the rudder pin.

This prevents the TI from moving back when I lift the nose with no-one to help.
I am 65 and can still lift the front onto the top of the car but it wouldn't want to be heavier.
