Further to your last point Mikesail, if venturing offshore, I also rig up a 1/4" tether line. This 30 foot long line is tied to my rear crossbar, and carabinered to my waist belt. I have a handle looped in the line about 2 feet from the end for an additional hand hold in case the belt breaks. The line is wrapped with rubber bands which would break away if I go overboard.

Tony,
good ideal. I am concerned the TI would keep sailing and drag you along through the water.do you have a quick release shackle to 'cut away' if need be? I would be interested to see if someone has tested a tether on the TI while it is sailing to see what it would do? Sounds like something to test out....with a buddy on the front just in case!!!
