Got a bunch of wool yarn telltales and now I want to put them on the sail.

But telltale placement seems to be sail-specific.

I want to Google for "Telltale Placement" + the term-of-art for the AI's sail type.

Can somebody put a name on it?

Peter, no need to Google.. telltale placement is simply logical...

Add one about halfway between the existing telltale and the top of the clear part of the sail, in a vertical line with the existing telltale.

Add three or four longer single telltales spread approximately evenly down the trailing edge of the sail. These will be rarely all flowing.

The reality is that without a traveller, the Island's sail shape is simply not as adjustable as on conventional yachts.. Islands are effectively marine SUVs.

Sticky part at the edge so that the telltale flows back free of the sail? Or positioned so that the end of the telltale is even with the trailing edge ?

You want the telltale flowing behind the sail, rather than on it. It will then be affected by the airflow on both sides of the sail. It will tend to curl towards the windward side due to faster airflow on the back of the sail
