I just got back from retention. Branch manager has a projected date to Korea this fall. I wasn't suppose to leave fort eustis until next year fall. Does anyone here sail in Korea? Should I bring my hobie? I just bought my ti this spring and I was looking forward to using it more.

Do you know where you'll be stationed at? Is this an accompanied or a remote?

Camp Humphrey, and hopefully an accompany tour.

Good news is Camp Humphreys is right on the river. Bad news is I couldn't find any boat access, at least from google maps. If it's accompanied and you can swing getting the TI in your household goods I would say go for it. You might be the only one of us to sail in Korea. If it ends up be unaccompanied, keep the TI and try to get a really good follow on to some place warm and wet.

I'm jealous. The water here in central Ohio is still in the 50's, although it might warm up enough by next weekend to get out.

So, by you saying it's "too late" am I to assume that the orders are remote unaccompanied?

Too late as in I probably won't be taking my ti with me to Korea.

Wear a wetsuit, I wear a wet suit all the time. I use a 3/2 wetsuit in 50 degree water and it's very warm and comfy.

Well that sucks. Somebody gonna take care of it while your gone or are you just gonna store it?

I have wetsuit pants, just not with me. I'm in the middle of a PCS of sorts myself. I'm lucky I even have my boat with me right now.

I'll just bring it back to my parents house and store it in the garage. The sucky party of it is that if my command sponsorship gets approve, I'll be there for two years instead of one.

Sucks. Try to look on the bright side of it though. You have 1+ years to save up to buy all sorts of cool gear to install when you return. Maybe by then Hobie will have worked out an actual jib too. Additionally think of the follow on that you could land (remember warm and wet is the goal :D )

TIs work well in VA? I have a PA17t that we are looking at swapping for a TI as we are headed to VA this summer.

I live on Fort Eustis and on the James River the average wind speed is between 5-15mph on the average. I sailed the Chesapeake Bridge Tunnel and it was the same, 5-15mph. The weather here is awesome, 70F plus and very humid. The water gets very warm in the summer so a wetsuit is not needed.

TI is more then enough unless you want a H16. There are beaches everywhere to launch your yak or H16.
