Hobie started selling Mirage Drive kayaks 20 years ago in 1997. Many Hobie owners know that their favorite mode of propulsion was designed by Greg Ketterman. It could have just as easily been called the Ketterman Drive. Ketterman also designed the venerable Hobie Tri-Foiler, based on his world speed record sailboat Longshot.
Greg retired from Hobie today and plans to enjoy some serious sailing. Thank you Mr. Ketterman for sharing your brilliant ideas for the rest of us to enjoy!
Here are a few old articles about some of Ketterman's work:

This man is a hero! I always think of him every time I watch the eyes of a stranger light up when I demonstrate the workings of his ingenious Miragedrive.
One look at his influence on the range of different models available from Hobie underlines Greg's legend status, as well as the brilliant decision Hobie made when they hired him all those years ago.
While Greg was basically a "backroom guy", I often send the following Youtube clip to people when extolling the virtues of the Miragedrive.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D0rvFdLdplA
