I was thinking about the discussion here on the safety of the motor and safety to your kids.

And thought a jet driver trolling motor must exist.

Sure enough it does and is compatible with tandem island rudder.

Yep saw those and they are not out yet. Also torqeedo makes good stuff. When the bixpy's come out and get some real reviews i may try and do a side by side test. But till then the torqeedo will work.

I just had a discussion with my kids about being careful and really they hang their feet off the ama end so if they fall off they would hit the ama as i speed by. As long as they don't pull a titanic and stand on the bow there should be little chance of me running them over.

Today, for instance, they were tired from playing and just slept on the tramps while i motored home.

Its officially named: HeiHei

Even put a "heart of tafiti" emblem on it for the girls

Ok back to work. So i have decided to reconfigure my Trailex to a single mode. And i will just keep the other one when i need to tale both the TI and the PA.

I would like to do this reconfiguration without cutting anything so i can put it back later if i want. So the question is can i move the leaf springs in on the axle about 3-6 inches per side? Or should i buy a shorter axle?

Image

I would have to fab up a different fender mounts. But i wouldn't have to cut any extrusions. The axle is rated at 2k so 3-400 lbs of yak and gear shouldn't stress it at all in my mind but i would assume moving those away from the ends of the axle changes something?

H-rails mounted! I still have 2 of the 9 inch ones that i might mount but we'll see.

Image

The throttle maybe too close so i may move it up/out with a ram extension but otherwise it fit great! I cut about 2 inches off the port side and had to take the foam out to reach stuff but otherwise it was pretty easy.

Anyone have thoughts on the trailer question above?

And spray skits are in

Image

Plan to mount to the aka brace and bow padeye then make some sort of quick release bungee thing (any ideas) to connect it to where the ama bungees are so i can roll like this for storage.

Image

Why doesn't Hobie sell these???

Anywho, should i mount them inline, under or over the akas?

Image

These are the 90 dollar ebay ones (Tampa Trampoline) seem pretty sturdy.

Lastly does anyone tighten these up to be load bearing? I could see the kiddos crawling out on them.

I've had my 4 year old sit on my kayakbob set. They held up, but I was quick to correct her. My older two know better.

Got out once this weekend and got to test out the new SUP as a haka. Girls loved it.

Image

And puttz with the motor. Works well. Going mostly upwind it held at 5.1 mph with no sail or peddling. That was full throttle and range said only about 2.5 miles.

Image

I played with a little sail and a little peddling and we could hold 5 mph easy and pull the throttle back to 50%. That brought the range to about 10 miles.

All in all i am happy with the motor. Mount works for now but i am going to work on a better one this winter. Also realized throttle shouldn't be too close to the rudder handle, probably need to move it to the starboard side.

Question: anyone have a diagram for the rudder lines? Mine is really hard to turn. Nothing like my PA. I want to check it out to see if its wired right.

I think sometimes it would be cheaper for me to be a Hobie dealer... Image

Image

I got an inflatable SUP the other day to use as a haka and to play with. While out one day the wife tried it and the current was too strong and started to take her out to sea. Next day as fate would have it Hobie put the eclipse on sale and my wife saw it. That was all she wrote... it is pretty fun but i still prefer the TI ;)

The build looks great man! Nice to see your TI on the water!
Nice to name the kayak, like the name... HeiHei!
I will give it some thought and maybe name my TI aswell. My evil fishing buddys suggested I should name it Forrestal or Nimitz... buggers! :D

All the best!
