I held off on the Spinnaker. And had it out a LOT this week end. Sailed further and longer than we ever had in the last 30 years on various boats. I didn't find it to be that much of a "dog" in down wind at all. Granted we were reaching a lot. You only need to be slightly off straight downwind to fill the sail. This was in generally light winds too. Unless we find it severely lacking or just become bored I think we might pass on the Spinnaker. The simplicity of setup right now is great and I don't want to spoil that. Didn't mind the splashing all that much either. Other boats tends to be the bigger problem with splashing that create large swells/chop. We probably wouldn't sail in winds that create white caps over a foot or so. Those new "Surf behind" boats should be outlawed (and I own a true inboard Ski boat). It's just ridiculous the wake those boats put out. |
