I am looking at getting a TI and a trailer to go with it. Looking at support options I see most people do the cradles or pvc bunks. I am curious if there is a reason why no one ever uses 2x4 bunks like a bigger boat? I am using them on my current yak storage and roof rack setup and like them. I searched a lot on here and couldn't find a single solution where people have used them.

The idea is to have something that will conform to the hull shape. Straight 2x4's will only support very small sections of the hull, which can then deform under the boat's own weight.

I guess I would counter that with:

1 - the 3" and 4" PVC bunks are effectively as stiff as a board in this application and don't seem to damage

2 - Hobie seems fine with one storing the boat on just the cradles which is effectively a very small area. I would think longitudinal bunks would distribute load better then them.

The only reason I am thinking there aren't more is cost. Since the PVC is cheap and wood+carpet+maybe padding is more.
