I have put together a dry box with flares, orange flag, signal mirror, etc. Could also include a radio or other things depending on your situation. I was going to locate it in my front hatch in my TI, but I was thinking in the case of a capsize turned turtle, If I was solo and was injured or for some reason unable to right the boat, it would not be a good place for this. Opening the hatch would flood the hull.

Any thoughts in where you locate your safety equipment?

VHF radio, SPOT, whistle, knife (sharp, preferably a Leatherman so you have some tools immediately available) should all be on your life jacket, which you should be wearing. A first aid kit of some sort should be in a dry bag in the round hatch immediately in front of you. It should be secured there so it does not move around. Also, in that round hatch, should be a repair kit with parts for your Island.

My dry bags (plural) are attached to the crossbar behind me (or behind and rear seat passenger on the rear deck).

My 3 drybags contain:-
1) Comprehensive safety gear, including first aid, torches, flares, hand compass etc etc
2) Ground tackle including Cooper anchor, sea anchor, 30M anchor line (plus another 10M permanently attached to the bow), 2M chain, shackles etc
3) Fire extinguisher (only when petrol outboard is carried).

On my person (if sailing offshore), VHF, PLB, knife, torch. Additional gear (strobe light, car keys etc) live in the hatch in a waterproof box under my knees

I call this a "grab bag" and also include a bottle of red wine... :D
A grab bag should have everything needed in an emergency situation.

best regards
