OR, for real bullet-proofing:-
1. tie the hinges of the amas together across the boat with light cord* (useful if you always store the Island with amas folded rather than removed) This mod was published by kayakingbob years ago

2. Make up short safety lines (*use Hobie rudder line, strong as an ox and cheap as) with a loop on top and small washer at bottom, threaded through one of the black plugs screwed into the ama at the outer end of each aka. Place the washer inside the plug, and once the akas and amas are joined, place the loop over the button on the aka. Now the ama cannot come apart from the aka even if the bungy cord breaks.

3. Rig up the diagonal keep-out lines as mentioned above (I use mine irrespective of whether the tramp is in use or not)

I have made many modifications to my AI 2 to improve safety or harden the boat--all applicable to use on a TI. I've reported them here: https://www.hobie.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=70&t=7276&start=750&_ga=2.74625810.125172986.1526336923-1871989019.1515722084

If you have any questions about them, post here.

I am one of the few people to have actually capsized my Island. You can read about that experience here: https://www.hobie.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=70&t=54465&start=15 Scroll down to "The Capsize and Recovery"
