I unrolled my sail the other day and found a bit of mildew spots on the sail. Not sure where the moisture came from since I am pretty good about drying the sail, but it's there and I would like to try to do my best as far as mitigating spread and/or cleaning it. Does anyone have any recommended way to clean it?

Thanks!

I don't have any suggestions since I've never had to clean any off my sails. Where do you sail (under your profile you can indicate your location)? Fresh water only? Those of us who sail in salt water don't have the problem...so long as we do not clean our sails with fresh water.

To try to answer your question, I would go to a West Marine store and ask them. I would think they would have a mildew remover available.

Thanks for the response! I am only in fresh water (in Oregon/Washington). Called Hobie and they recommended going to West Marine and getting a mildew cleaner. Dealer I bought from (mostly a sailing dealer rather than kayak dealer) recommended using vinegar. Went to my local west marine and all of the products for mildew said to not use on fabric, so I held off on buying anything. Soaked it in vinegar for an hour then brushed/scrubed and rinsed. I don't expect to get the stains out, I just don't want them spreading more.
