Post subject:  Youth Kayaks on Akas

I'm considering purchasing two youth kayaks (http://www.walmart.com/ip/Lifetime-Wave-60-Youth-Kayak-Paddle-Included-Yellow-90100/16565223?selected=true) for my 5 and 8 year olds, and mounting them to the akas on either side of a tandem island. The thought is they would sit in/on the kayaks while underway, and once I beach somewhere the kayaks would come off so they could paddle around. Has anyone tried something like this? I'm sure I could come up with an attachment method, just can't picture if they're going to feel too high sitting on a kayak, on the akas.

The kayaks look pretty small, so they could probably mount under the akas rather than on top.

I've carried a SUP with a 1rst gen AI. On top of the aka, it felt unstable, while under it adds to the stability of the boat. (Potentially, it could add stress to the mast since it won't heel as much with the buoyancy of the kayak under the aka, so it'd be best to furl earlier than you would without the kayaks.)

We have one of those kayaks. They are fantastic for getting kids into kayaking. Super stable for a kid, they can easily climb in and out. We've definitely used it with our TI but never like you are suggesting.

I a little over a week, I'll be in a situation I can put it on the tramps with a kid in it and take a picture for your reference if this is still something you are considering.

Appreciate the offer. I ended up buying the kayaks and taking my kids out this weekend. They did great on them on their own. On top of the akas was too high, but in slower speeds they were able to hang on to the akas. For faster speeds I might just tow the kayaks behind me while the kids ride on the tramps.
