She is there... Brand new red Tandem Island just arrived this morning !!!! 2 hours later, first try solo, then again with my son, and third tour with my wife with winds around 15 knots. We all loved it !!! This boat is AWESOME : very safe and very comfortable (though wet but the water temperature is around 26° so not an issue). Tomorrow, a 20 nm trip is planned : I will try trolling ! |

A couple other suggestions When solo sailing in those conditions always sit in the back seat. Use a leash to hold your paddle. If you lose your rudder you’re really going to need that paddle to get home. In fact, put a leash on everything, mirage drive, your hat, paddle, phone, vhf radio, sunglasses, your spouse. You are likely to loose whatever is not leashed. I have a Torqeedo mounted as suggested in posts on this site. But I find it bounces too much in those conditions. I kinda wish I never mounted it. |

Thanks for the leash advice : duely noted !!! 2 remarks though after 2 days : - when sailing solo, though the backsit is dryer, two issues there with a "stock boat" : the furling line is too short to be used from the backsit, and if the sail is a bit furled then the mainsheet hits the head of the passenger when tacking or gybing. - I definetely have to put 2 barber haulers to improve the shape of the main sail when sailing downwind. But this boat is a blast : wife and kids love it... |

Regarding the furling line, just tie the end of the line to the end of your main sheet. Then they will both be in reach. Main sheet hitting your head only happens when tacking. Just duck when you tack. Sailing in the front seat on a TI in rough conditions is miserable. I agree on the barber hauler. That would be nice. But sailing downwind is doable so I’ve just never got around to it. Let me know what you rig up. Thanks |
