Matt,

It's been a week and I am not having any luck getting my dealer to order this part. They are saying it does not show up in their Hobie ordering portal and I cannot find it using your nifty parts search tool...

My TI is limping along with a strap holding the AKA.

Please help...

That part was updated: 79520604 AKA LOCK KIT HINGED HOOK $104.00

When was this updated? This is a 2020 Tandem Island, just over a year old. It is a rental boat, so no warranty from Hobie. And now it has been broken for over a week (lost rental revenue) because Hobie can't keep their parts catalog updated and has obsoleted the part I need so they can charge more to make me buy 4 of them.

So now instead of replacing a $6 part, I have to spend $104 for all those extra parts I don't need?

This is ridiculous. When was this changed? And when exactly will the parts catalog be updated to reflect this change? When parts break, I need to be able to find the replacement in the most recent catalog, send a quick email to my dealer, and get the part ordered. Instead, I have to go around in circles with them because the part has been obsoleted and the correct information is nowhere to be found.

Thanks for letting me vent...

Quick update, I'm trying to get this covered under warranty. My dealer told me to send them a picture and they would try.

Attached is the picture of the broken part. I am still in disbelief that I need to buy a $100 kit with a bunch of extra pieces that I don't need to fix a broken plastic piece that should be under $10.

Looks like Matt updated the 2020 parts catalog last week. Thanks for doing that. But why do I have to buy all 4?

Is this the free upgrade kit I’ve seen mentioned in other post?

Just a quick update, my dealer got my broken clip replaced under warranty.

Side note, I would recommend the Hobie engineers add a radius on the hook to prevent this failure in the future. With the back cut geometry, adding a radius would not interfere with operation. Even a tiny radius would distribute the stress and prevent the corner from turning into a crack.
