Hey gang, So I like bargains or taking a beater and bringing it back to life. I also tend to put too much OT into my toys, which is why my new vessel needs to have a good "other woman" name. Anyhow, I'm a lucky chap because my coolest father-in-law ever gave me his 2008 AI. Then I take it off-shore with my fishing buddy in my 2008 Revo 13 and suddenly it hit me like a ton of bricks...we can't go underway like this anymore. Needless to say I just sold my 2008 Revo and 2011 PA14 and now I have another AI, a 2013 which is is fair to good condition. At least the sail was only used on/off for the first year or so (and it shows), crazy I know. But the hull has seen some pretty good shell rash that I can dress up to a more smooth finish. I have a method where I lay down rolled up gouged PE with my Polyvance thermal welder, then I go over it with 320 Abranet 5" orbital pads...it really does a nice job just laying down the bumps and leaves a fine PE hair surface. Then with my high watt heat gun and wide spreader it really brings back the normal smooth shinny luster. But what about the rudder/dagger material, is it okay to hit it with some heat after a light sand? I have a feeling this is not good, but figured someone here would know. |
