Hobie Catamaran will be celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Hobie Alter's 1st Catamaran this October 2018. Please help create momentum with your post below and help allow for a place for catamarans to beach and trade out crew members right on the beach somewhere in Orange County CA. Currently we don't have a good option - it's illegal to beach a catamaran anywhere in OC on a public beach. Please respond below if you'd like to see this change and any ideas to keep it safe for all.

I'm also looking to bring back the interest level and participation of all catamaran sailors to honor Hobie Alter.
Please help join this movement and include your positive ideas to help make it work for all.
Thanks,
Phil Stirtz

There is a beach across the harbor from Baby Beach in Dana Point. Disappears at high tide. I think it’s called Sometimes Beach.
It’s been years, but I use to launch my cat at Hobie Land in Long Beach.
I love where you’re going with this.

Thanks
I know the “sometimes” spot and it’s a long slow tack up the channel but would be a perfect instructional spot for our future sailors!

I went out to long beach and Dana Pt a few years ago. Called everyone listed in that fleet i could and was told that Hobie racing had been over with for many years. Was also told beaching your cat is Illegal there and the rangers will chase you off the beach and possibly fine you.Marina DelRay rented me a getaway but had to launch and return to the dock in the marina. Figured i'd see lots of mast up hobies all over the place....none. Quite sad :(

I thought you can sail from Baby Beach inside of Dana Point harbor. There's also a very nice launch at Belmont Shore up near Long Beach called Claremont Ramp. Summer its a great sailing spot protected behind a break wall a couple of miles offshore (a popular kiteboarding spot, but plenty of people sail Beach Cats there as well. The Hobie Fleet is also hosting a Regatta this June in Chula Vista (this is just for the comment about Hobie racing having died off) There are still regattas along Cali coast and inland in AZ. Here's The Division racing schedule: http://hcana.hobieclass.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/7/2017/12/2018_Schedule.pdf
