Hi
I am new to this site. Please forgive me if this question has already been covered elsewhere ...but so far I have not seen it.

Does anyone have any experience hauling the AI with one of the Malone car top carriers?

One is a V-shaped affair with an extension to cradle the front of the kayak without contacting the car while you slide the kayak up onto the front V-shaped cradle.

The other is their J-type cradle with the Telos jacks used to aid in lifting the kayak up into the J-cradle.

I have read several positive reviews but none of them are loading the AI.

no one used the malone gear then ?
i'm thinking of getting the v seawing.
do you think it would support the ai well enough to leave on the roof of my camper

The Malone stuff looks interesting but appears too lightweight and flexible for the heavy 16' AI.

Plus you have to raise the puppy pretty high by yourself to get it on the lift. They show a tiny car in the demo and it would be even higher on a SUV or camper.

I would only buy it if I could first see it in person and judge the strength of the components. Some owners have commented re the sturdier J-holders and this may be of some help to you if you dig around those posts.

Just how much cheaper is this setup than the Hullivator?

After now playing with my Thule Hullavators for a few months, I would say the Telos would not work well for an AI.

Something else to consider: I'm told the Malone J Racks hold kayaks up to 70 lbs. and up to 32" wide. I understand the Adventure Island's hull is about 80 lbs.

I have Malone J Racks, but only use them for lighter kayaks. I trailer my AIs behind the car, or use my Thule Hullavators on the truck.

Hi Guys:

I use the Malone Sea Wings with my AI and they are plenty heavy for that service and actually fit the AI hull very well. They allow you to carry the kayak upright and can be loaded/unloaded from the rear of my SUV. The height is a bit high but its not a problem. Thanks, Ray J

Thanks Ray - got any pictures?

I always liked the look of the Malone Vwings with the stinger loader. They flex and seem correctly shaped for the long flat AI hull.

With the a really solid roof rack, they will slide to the outer edge and allow you to put 2 hulls up on a relatively narrow roof. A very cool feature.

Still they are rated at 70lb max and should be watched carefully.

I'd watch the rating on the roof rack you plan to load 160 lbs on. A lot of factory racks have a 100 lb limit.
