Got my AI a few days back and on advice from Mickey Mouse I had my wife seam up the red flag that is sewn at the end of the new silver version. Apparently the flag frays immediately it is subjected to any wind. I did like the quality of the old black mast bag with the Hobie logo, but time will tell if the new style stands up to Hobies quality assurance. It's all small potatoes when it comes down to it I guess....Pirate

I might not be getting this correctly, are you saying the silver mast bag you got came with red flag? Or did you fit that yourself?

Coz' I didn't get a flag with mine.

You got gipped Hammer cause ours down here all came with the flag sen on one end. Now let's see.... flag size 15cm x 15 cm @ $5 per metre = hmmmm....not much...Pirate :wink:

Thanks for all of the great help. My Hobie source, ACK of Houston, finally ordered the correct cover and I now have what I needed. As soon as weather breaks and I have a day off I'll be sailing/fishing in the Gulf of Mexico south of Houston, TX.

We got the #72054 Hobie cover when we first got our TI (Dec 2014), and used it - meaning that we towed with the cover on - last summer when we drove from San Antonio to the Florida Keys - over 3,000 miles total.

We also use it when we go down to the Gulf Coast (400 mile round trip) and are staying overnight - kind of a security blanket.

We have made no mods to the cover and it does not seem to have suffered any ill effects. We turn the red bag/flag inside out and attach the Velcro on the inside - it helps stop the wind filling it.

BTW - boat is stored uncovered in the garage when at home.

When I trailered my covered AI from So Cal to Seattle, cars repeatedly wanted to change lanes into my boat. One guy actually bumped it in a double left lane. The grey cover makes it blend in with the street. I had no problems on the way back with the boat uncovered.

Even though it hasn't happened to me, this is something we do worry about. To improve side visibility, I have bought these guys to install in the ends of the trailer cross-members:
