I usually set up my '11 AI before bringing it down to water; akas w/amas folded in and attached by the paddle bungees to side of yak, then wheel down to launch. The amas hang below the hull in rear about 6" below bottom of yak. Is this normal? Transporting on hard surface isn't a problem, but through sand, the back end of the amas will drag.

I used a piece of wood that sits on top of hull, over rear hatch, and goes under the aka bars, supporting them, raising the amas higher, so they are even with the bottom of hull and will not drag through the sand. I was wondering if anyone has the same issues and/or if this will cause problems with additional twisting where the akas slide into the rear V2 crossbar? When I removed the aka bars, the rear ones did need a little more effort to release.

Ama dragging when folded is normal.
On both AI and TI I just use a cam strap over the hull and under and back over each ama. :)

Unless you have a narrow path, why keep the amas in? The boat is far more impressive folded out and no dragging ama problems. Plus at around 9' wide, you get far more respect heading for the ramp, and saves you another minute at launch. :)

lol...If I could figure out a way to attach a wheel to the rudder, I'd mount the bow on the wheeleaze cart and sail it down to the launch! Now that would be impressive!
