If going any distance I usually carry my Outback and my wife's Passport on a trailer. When fishing closer to home we usually carry them in the back of one of our trucks with an 8' bed, with the tailgate down. Having the tailgate down makes it a bit more difficult to carry extra gear in the bed of the truck. I am thinking about getting a ladder rack for one of the trucks. Each of the kayak's is 34" at the widest point. I would prefer to carry them bottom down since it won't be for long periods of time. Looking at some of the popular racks like Thule and Yakima a lot of them don't have the option for crossbars that are wide enough to accommodate 2 flat kayaks.

What racks and options have some of you found to work well for carrying 2 kayaks? I'd prefer a rear roller or at least a rear saddle that pivots enough with felt or something to allow it to slide somewhat easily as the truck the rack would go on is a 3/4 ton 4x4 that is relatively tall.

Thanks for any thoughts.
