Right, who's up for a Middle Harbour - North Harbour trip.

Good place to launch is Balmoral beach near the yacht club. Heaps of parking even if it costs $16 for the day. Reef Beach on the north side of Dobroyd Head is very nice for lunch.
We can check out the numerous small bays around North Head.
I can also run the sidescan sonar over a shipwreck in Middle Harbour and see what that looks like.

Hey, Reef beach used to be the nude bathing beach in my youth. Goodness knows what you might pick up with your scanner . I'm up for it, but for the sake of the tourist industry, I might keep my clothes on.

No nudies there last time I visited. Might have been off season though.
I agree, we should all keep our clothes on. Saves on sunscreen anyhow... 8)

You know I'm up for it. I had a look on the map. Gee I get lost try'n to find Patonga, how is this 'boy from the bush' gunna find Balmoral Beach ? If I could put in my preferance on dates, if it's a weekend, I'd prefer early October ( say 3rd 4th or 10th 11th ). If it's midweek, anytime but need about 3 days notice. But other than that, real keen. Any thoughts on a route ?

Naked AI sail'n ??? Matt, could you add this as a new sub-directory under 'Adventure Island' ?

Mate, maybe it's time to bite the bullet and get the Garmin and Topo Australia. Then just key in Balmoral and follow the directions.

Head for the Zoo but turn off before you get there. If you see lions and tigers you've gone too far.... :D

Is Tuesday too early?

Umm, weekdays are a bit of a problem for me CGM, but don't miss out on my account if the others are up for it. I often get the chance to sail on Sydney Harbour on weekends, so we can still catch up.

I have zoomed in as far as I can. No sign of any naked bods in the satellite mode.. So you may be safe.

Hey, that's really kind of you to help us with our pre-trip research Rokraider  . Spurred by the interest this subject is generating, I did a bit of errr... Googling. It turns out that Reef beach was de-gazetted as a nude beach in 1993. The honour now falls to Cobblers ( ) Beach, Obelisk Beach and Lady Bay, within Sydney Harbour. Please feel free to verify my data Rokraider 8).

Edited in true tabloid style

Cobblers Beach - Legal
Cobblers Beach is located on the northern side of Middle Head. It is a great place for snorkelling around the rocks.

The image this place conjures up is Priceless!! You should definitely head there...

"Where are you going"?

"Cobblers"!

"No need to take that attitude"..

Yeh, this Tuesday may be a bit short notice for me. But as Chris says, if it's OK for others, don't worry about me, I'll catch up next time. I must admit, Sydney Harbour does appeal to me. What's the island somewhere around Fort Denison that you can picnic on ? And isn't there one in the Harbour you can even camp on ? You're right Chris, I'm procrastinating too much and need to get the Garmin !!

No worries. Actually Tuesday/Wednesday's weather has deteriated anyway. Wednesday they are talking 30 knot winds. Might just batten down the hatches for those days.

Shark Island is nice to visit. Went there last year to help in a photo shoot. There's a nice beach on the SW side. Just have to be careful of rocks as there are a few about. There were kayaks dropping in most of the time we were there.

West of the Harbour Bridge is the old Naval Dockyard on Cockatoo Island. That is kayak friendly and have a designated kayak landing place on one of the old slipways. They also have camping. I landed there on my first trip in the AI. Be careful of the concrete when landing. It's not all that hull or Mirage Drive friendly. Also can be a little slippery when walking on it.

I've got a video some where...
