What a brilliant trip. I can't really add much more to what has already been posted. Between us all we have captured some great photos and videos. Here is my collection.

Autograph hunters as we setup to leave Shoal Bay.

Racing towards Broughton Island.

Always on the lookout for bomboras.

Entering Esmerelda Cove

Image
What a campsite.

Providence Beach on the other side of the island.

View towards ChrisJ Bay.

Sorry I forgot the ice cream Mickey.

Stringy, happy with himself in his bivvy.

Getting ready for the return trip.

Image
Out of the way fellas, I want to get a shot of Cons Cleft.

Image
There it is, Cons Cleft. On a good day you can paddle through the crack. But this was not the day.

Image
Stringy bought everything just in case. But why you would need to bring a scale model of the Eifel Tower is beyond me.

Image
Geoff proving once again that yellow is faster..

Image
Entering Port Stephens.

Thanks fellas for a really memorable trip. I'm sure there will be many more to come.

Just to defend my Garmin GPS: it worked perfectly - I was the one who malfunctioned. I entered a waypoint for Esmerelda Bay and the GPS dutifully pointed the way straight there. I just kinda forgot there was a headland in the way . It all looked so simple from Google Earth, not so from water level :( .

Great stuff Stringy. Top shots. I'm still setting up my camera to post the right size photos. Yours look like just the right size. Mine came out a bit small (5meg approx.) and lost a bit in translation. Any advice ?

P.S. I told you we came back between the islands the same way we went.

Slaughter,
I thought your pics looked great with excellent definition and colour.
My camera is only 3mp which takes a 2048 x 1536 image (4:3 format) on the highest superfine setting at about 1.3mb in file size.
I resize the pics later, using Snagit, down to around 640 x 480 or if I want larger then 800x 600, or by a % to get close to these. The file size is reduced to about 270kb which is better for uploading.
Your newer camera pics look widescreen so the sizes will be different. Be sure to check the proportioning box when resizing so you don't get distorted images.

P.S.- I thought that was what you said. It was difficult to hear on the water!

Slaughter, if you displayed a 5 megabyte file on an ordinary monitor without shrinking it, you would only be able to display a fraction of the picture. If you use Imageshack (http://www.imageshack.us/), rather than Photobucket for your photo uploads, it gives you the option to resize them before they are displayed. This doesn't stop it taking a relatively long time to upload the file in the first place. Alternatively, you can install Shrink Pic (http://www.onthegosoft.com/sp_download.htm)(free) on your computer and it stays resident and automatically resizes any pictures you want to upload or email. Snagit is great, but you have actually got to pay for it.

Thanks fellas. I sort of get it now. Primed with your comments, I got my son to sit me down last night and explain for about the 5th time how it all works. He finished up using a V8 engine = 12 Megapixals as an analogy and bingo, the penny dropped. The brain works in mysterious ways.

A couple of Youtubes from the trip. Sorry but they didn't come out HD. Wrong setting.

Clip 1. I got a bit bamboozled after going through the heads. For the whole trip I thought that Mickey was closest to the mainland which was actually Chris. So don't pay too much attention to my race call.

Clip 2. Go outside, hose yourself down, stand until your bottom jaw starts chattering, then say 'Esmeralda Cove'.

Clip 3. Just outside port Stephens Heads.

Thanks for those great reports ,photos and videos with commentaries it is great fun to look at when safely on dry land. I need to get a waterproof camera, the shots I took with my phone have probably gone the way of my phone. Kept it safe and dry all the way there and back ony to put it in my pocket after answering a call then later walking out into the water. :( Lucky it wasn't an expensive one. Radios would be good as when you are close enough to hear clearly what is being called out with the noise of the wind and sea, you are too close risking a touch on the outrigger which would complicate things in a chalenging sea.
looking forward to another trip
Geoff
