Smallfish. Why don't we go with your lead and plan to meet down at Woollahra Sailing Club Rose Bay about 10am on Australia Day. I'm just up the road in Bronte.

If anyone else can make it there, or catch up with us on the harbour that would be great.

I'd be up for an Australia Day sail in Sydney Harbour. My TI is at WSC at Rose Bay and I normally put off there. I could RV in the Harbour somewhere. (Packed) Lunch at Balmoral? or fish and chips at Watsons Bay?

I'm a member there. I'll see if I can make this.

I reckon the fish and chips were better at Balmoral. Take a cut lunch to Watsons Bay...

I can see a good plan forming here. The 10.00am start at WSC sounds good. If Cowsgomoo can meet us at Rose Bay are there any other northside AI/TI sailors that would put off at (say) Tunks Park? We could RV at perhaps Balmoral. The only thing that worries me is the Ferry Race. I'm used to two ferries thundering down at me, but the thought of a dozen is something else! Anyone know the time that the race is on?
I'm all for packing a nice lunch in the forward hatch and pulling our boats up on a beach. But I'm as flexible as my carbon fibre mast!

Slaughter, Hammer, davew and chrisj. How are you placed for an Australia Day get together on Sydney Harbour?

The ferry race starts at Circular Quay at 11am and proceeds up to Shark Island, off Rose Bay. What are the crowds likely to be like on the Harbour foreshores? Parking?

After posting here I was reading my trusty Afloat magazine. Sydney harbour may be pretty busy....

A good day for land based activities.

I think if we essentially kept east of Shark Island it could be ok. Most of the activity seems to be west of that point. And we can always scurry into Middle Harbour, Rose Bay or Manly.

Bit short notice but I'm looking at getting out from Rose Bay Saturday (22 Jan).

Hi guys, just confirming the plan for Woollahra Sailing Club at 10am Wednesday. Packing lunch for Balmoral Beach south end. Great thing about the Hobie is you can stay close to the shore or run and hide in any direction if necessary.

I put in at Burraneer Bay boat ramp the other day at almost dead low tide. Around the corner heading down Hacking River was very interesting. Ocean swell versus outgoing tide in about 1.1 mirage drives of water made for breaking waves that almost stood still. Except we had to go through them. I stayed quite dry though as my daughter in front broke up most of the wash. What are kids for. I would definitely recommend a trip to Port Hacking to ride the swells, in very picturesque surroundings. Up river to Audley is also a nice calm water trip.
cheers,
Donald AI (and TI) sailor
ps: I dont know if I can change the topic name to include TI's without losing the conversation?

Just edit the heading, abbreviate Sydney down to Syd, that's enough to fit TI- space between AI and sailors.

Yep. I'm right for 10.00am Wednesday at WSC with packed lunch for Balmoral. Seeing if I can rig some black bungee cord from mast to bow to accommodate an Australian flag.

Hands up if you have to work...
Yep that be me... Grrrrrr

Should finish at 1600 so I might wonder down to WSC and see if I can see anybody.

Rose Bay to Balmoral on Australia Day was terrific. Met Smallfish and his crew at Woollahra SC before heading off to Clark Is for the Ferry Race.

Fog came in and Manly disappeared as we sailed up past Watsons Bay then across the harbour to Balmoral. Balmoral was packed with picnicers.

On the way back we were treated to the wooden yacht fleet coming past, QANTAS flyover -nothing fell off luckily. 18 footers. Lots of harbour action, but no trouble navigating through it.

I have some picks. When I work out how I'll put them up.
