Thanks Greg! I'll be looking forward to some Fall trips!

As far as the halyard, I mounted about 20 inches of PEX tubing to the mast topper and so far haven't had any issues. I really like the way you did yours, by the way. Since the winds are starting to get lighter for the summer out this way, I've been getting inspired to find a jib. So my search has been back on. I've found a few small used ones for around $50. They're probably in crappy condition and they aren't exactly what I'm looking for, but for that price it might be something good to start testing with.
