Kinja, if I could do it over again, I would have doubled my Hyrocortisone the moment I started to feel exhausted. It was a mistake to plan and catch up once I made land. At that point all it would have taken is a capsize for things to really end badly. When I had my initial adrenal crisis I was not able to even walk up a set of stairs.

Great job Greg! To go through all of that and still make it to Port Mansfield, then to gather up the inspiration and energy to join us again a few days later, you were definitely the "winner" of the trip!

It was an amazing trip! I met some great people, heard many interesting stories, saw some very cool boats and did some great sailing. I hope to be back to do it again next year!

Great! Looking forward to next year already. Turns out I had a small, drip,drip type leak in the hull around the bottom gundgen (sp?) screw. This was fixed with the plastic welder. I lengthened my mast head PVC pipe and that has stopped the issues with the spinnaker snags. I am testing some ideas to prevent the spinnaker bag from dragging in the water and becoming waterlogged. All in all, I should have all the problems resolved well before next year and be ready to "embrace the suck" one more time.

I wouldn't put too much effort into avoiding the spinnaker getting wet Greg, I reckon it dries out in a couple of minutes when you next hoist it. Think clothesline lol)

2012 Tandem Island "SIC EM" with Hobie spinnaker

Tony, its not the getting wet that is the actual problem. I found that when in heavy winds, amas digging in, on a beam reach and with the suffer on the leeward side, the spin snuffer will suddenly fill up like a balloon and create some serious drag. It only happens when your not using the trampoline and in higher winds. I redirected my safety lines to provide some lift under the snuffer and use a bungee to gather up the snuffer about 1/3 of the way down the length of the snuffer. With be testing the setup tomorrow.

Glad you're getting it all worked out! There's plenty of "suck to embrace" without boat problems. What length did you end up with on your mast head PVC pipe? I went out yesterday and was testing my future jib, halyard/front stay and ended up with it wrapped all around the sail. Can't have that, so I'm going to try some PVC.

Yesterday's outing was my first since the 200, the boat felt so empty without all of the gear. I also forgot how well an unloaded boat glides through the water!

I have tried 3 lengths. 24 inches, 17 inches and I believe 13 inches.
All worked fine with the exception of 13 inches- which of course is what I used during the Texas 200. Whatever length you use, test it at higher winds and at different angles to the wind. Suprises occur with a change of the variables. TRUST ME.
