A few years ago I read a story about someone putting a 'wing' type metal
boom sail on a hobie cat in Sydney harbor to see how it would sail.

i cannot find it now, and would appreciate help in finding information about it.

I believe Telstra sponsored the trial.. and that it went like the clappers.

Anyone remember this?

I googled telstra and sailing team and came up with this: https://www.macquarie.com.au/mgl/au/speedsailing

These guys currently have the fastest though I believe http://www.sailrocket.com/

Neither of the boats listed above are "navigable." In other words, they are on one perpetual tack. They can't turn.

The Hobie TrFoiler still holds the Class A world record, for speed in a navigable sailboat.

Is your own search engine broken?

I get the same results. I am hoping someone who has firsthand knowledge of this will reply.
Surely someone in the hobie fraternity has heard about it.?
