Getting into afternoon thunderstorm season in June, and the wind is generally light. Also, the winged ones get bad then.

I still tolerate all that stuff, but I'm a native Floridian. It's not for everyone.

I'm the proud owner of a new papaya TI located in Fairhope, AL (about an hour from Pensacola, FL). Work has kept me from putting it in the water just yet, but hopefully that will happen this weekend. Can't wait!

We just brought our new TI south from Delaware to store in Miramar, FL [where our son and daughter both live].
Have enjoyed some great sailing out of Oleta RIver State Park. :D

Smart move!

I'm a bit south, but there are several people up in that area.

Brian,

We ought to get out one of these weekends before May 20. Are you and Theresa available? When did we meet in Flamingo?

I'm always up for a little drive down to the Caribbean waters at the end of the state. Got a three day weekend coming up next week.

I met you about 2 ECs ago. You were heading out for one last camping trip before the season ended. We talked for about 20 min. Yes, I'm free any time this month. My daughter has Baynanza (girl scout cleanup) at Homestead Bayfront Park this Saturday and I'm taking the TI. That's where I met Ted and discussed his make-shift rudder, which came in handy that day.
I like launching from Bayfront and Matheson Park.(close to home)

Saturday could be pretty good conditions for a run over to Boca Chica and back.

What is it, 9 or 10 miles? Looks like a close reach over in 12-13 knots and a beam reach back in 10-12. Probably average over five knots, making it a couple of hours over, lunch and a couple of hours back. Any takers? Add four hours of driving, for me, and it's a long day, but worth it.

Hi Ted,

Nancy is traveling, but expects to get in late this evening. Not sure of her schedule tomorrow. What time would you want to launch? Google Earth shows it at 11 miles. What about a shorter trip, just to Elliott? 30% chance of rain.

I'm all for a shorter trip, long as we don't have to do much tacking. We could just see which way the wind blows. Boca Chica is a bit more of a beam reach against the SE winds predicted. Depending on how southerly it is, we might be able to make Elliot on on a single tack.

If you can make it, I'd like to get out early enough to get over and back before dark. Maybe get there by 9:30 and get on the water by 10:30.

I now have a half a few extra rudder pins and some tools stored in the bilge:)

Ted, your times sound fine, the wind looks good, but I have a logistics problem tomorrow--only one car and my wife needs it.

Next weekend is Easter, I'm sure we will be doing something with the family, although I could get out Fri-Sat. Then, we have Apr 30-May 1, I'm open.

May 5-8 we are going up to Cedar Key for the small sail boat gathering--the WCTSS group.

Ted & Keith,
You guys missed a great sail. We left at 11:30am and returned at 3:30pm. About an hour and half each way (fastest across yet) with an hour of exploring at Elliot Key. Had to sneak through a bunch of sailboats in a race to Key Largo from Key Biscayne (all classes). We had showers off in the distance (inland) on the way back. Sorry, I didn't get any pics/video because I forgot my new Canon Zx5 at home. :(
Maybe next time,
Brian

Well darn, I didn't think you were you were on for a crossing and didn't want to make the trip alone. Yes, I imagine the conditions were good. Maybe next time.
