Post subject:  Hi FL AI gang

I just brought home a pair of Adventure Islands for the wife and me. We're in Punta Gorda, where I work at Gulf Island Sails, the Hobie Sailboat dealership for this area. We will mostly sail them in Charlotte Harbor and on the various tributary creeks and rivers.

Looking forward to our first sail in the new boats this afternoon, after I sort out a warranty issue on her boat.

Hi Tom,

Thanks for signing up. I'm going to try to summarize this list, although a glance indicates most people are on the west coast from MIA to Pensacola. It would be great if we could all get together a central place some time--perhaps Cedar Key. (Yeah, it is probably a stretch to say MIA is on the west coast.)

Please encourage anyone else who has an AI to sign onto this list, so we can keep in touch.

Keith

I sailed every day over the Memorial Day weekend, and introduced several new people to sailing the AI. All had a blast!

For those who are interested, I have a couple of Adventure Island videos on youtube:

Post subject:  My first AI trial

Well, I made it back from my first outing this weekend on the Dunedin Causeway. Had a blast although had some problems with one of the ama's which had a huge crack where the aka goes in (front cross bar). The right ama filled up with water on the way back to the beach (up wind) and I flipped the AI. I followed the instructions on righting the AI and within 5 minutes I was up and going but "limping". I bought the AI used including a trailer and had an hour trip to my house. The AI was assembled on the trailer so I am assuming this caused the crack as it was pretty big. I pick up the new ama tomorrow as the old one was not repairable..$$$$$.. expensive lesson!!!!
Other than that, I had a blast, they are fun!!!

Good man Madison, not in the A1 a wet day and you experienced a flip. Pity about the ama but you'll soon be good as new and having great fun.

As a week old novice, I fear my first flip but it seems like it could be straightforward enough to right the boat and get underway.

My worry is what happens if I fall out of the A1 and she keeps going so I use a paddle leash in gusty winds. Maybe that just means I get towed along as well!!!

Post subject:  New 08 AI owner

Hi - I am a new AI owner in SW Florida - home port in Cape Coral FL, but usually launch from Matlachee or Pineland. So far, only been out once on a really calm day - mostly peddaling, no sailing fun yet...

Upyaboya, just got my new AMA and just came in from out of town. Weather seems bad and hope I can take the AI out tomorrow if it clears some (typical FL weather for the year).

Attaching a paddle leash sounds like a good idea that I have not though about that situation. Will keep posted.

Rob,

As a newbie also, the sailing of the AI is great. I had great fun even with a damaged AI (my own trasportation.).

I sail off Dunedin which I am very familiar from regular kayaking.

Have fun with it..

Thanks Madison - I look forward to some windy days now - used to be a time when I hoped for calm days for the straight kayaking bit. Now i think I have the best of both worlds - can't wait to see what this new AI can do. based on what I read here in the forum, the boats can almost take more of a beating then we can! I will put this to the test soon!

Madison I'm always out on the Dunedin Causeway with my AI. We've been in Alaska for the last month but can't wait to to be sailing the AI again. The causeway is a great area for the AI.

See you out there.

Jim,

Thank you for the information. I am looking for this weekend Saturday and Sunday and perhaps Friday afternoon, depending on work and the kids.

What times do you go out?

Madison
