Hello guys,

Bad experience today.
The lower part of the mast of my TI broke today, while sailing upwind in a 10 or so knots wind.
Has anyone experienced the same thing (it is a 2021 model purchased in july 2021).
Can the lower part of the mast be purchased seperately ?

Thanks for any advice.

Hobie will likely replace it because it's so new. Hobie masts usually last the life of the boat, there's no way one should break after only a year, especially in only 10 knots of wind. It must have had a defect.

Get in touch with your Hobie dealer (or Matt Miller) asap and file a claim. Hobie stands firmly behind their boats and their quality.

Agree, broken TI mast are rare (but do happen).

The TI mast is tough.

I have sailed my TIs in plenty of rough coastal / offshore conditions but thankfully never snapped the mast. Did snap the bolt at the bottom of the mast receiver (older TI with the smaller 1/4" bolt)....sailing downwind in 10-15 mph winds.... accumulation of wear and tear over many sails....till the bolt failed. Now part of my annual inspection and swap out maintenance plan.

Recommend searching this forum for bit more background on this subject.

Given the age of your TI, should be a candidate for a warranty replacement. Recommend a discussion with your dealer.

The mast does come in two parts. Perhaps you can swap out the bottom section.
