Post subject: | Hobie Island Checklist |
A few Forum members, including myself, thought it would be useful to have a 'checklist' of issues or things to watch out for, on their AIs and TIs. This simply lists the issues, a fix if available, and links back to the relevant posts on this Forum. The Checklist has just begun, so if you have any suggestions as to how it's presented, I'd welcome them. Of course, there are a lot more items to add yet! One thought I did have was to split the list into two, one for AIs, and one for TIs. Any thoughts? You can find the Checklist here: Hobie Island Checklist Update: I have split the list into two, one for AIs and one for TIs. Also, comments at the Checklist have been disabled, with links provided back to this Forum Topic for suggestions. Hopefully that way, this Topic will get 'bumped' occasionally, giving 'newbies' a better chance of spotting it. |

That list is a GREAT idea! I'd add, Checking the tension on the 4 screws at the bottom of the AI (TI?) Mast cup. They've been loose, or worked their way loose on a number of boats, even new boats. |

Spare Shear bolts and nuts for the Aka brace. I found out yesterday as I Hit a Bouy with the Port AMA and broke one. Luckily the Tramps are great at keeping everything out till the repair can be made. |

I suggest you alter the link for mast receiver screws to viewtopic.php?f=44&t=5958 as Hobie's spec for the spare screws can be found here. |

Thanks boka1942, have added extra link. FWIW, I'm working out a revised layout of the Checklist, with Links below each issue instead of in a column, as in many cases there are several useful links, not just one. |

Post subject: | Re: Hobie Island Checklist |
A short piece of pool noodle inserted just past the collar bearings works as a safeguard when transporting, especially if inverted, though Nohuhu reported difficulty removing it on pre 08 receivers. viewtopic.php?f=75&t=12356&p=68770 Also AI owners should be made aware of the possibility of losing an aka brace overboard unless it is tethered. viewtopic.php?f=71&t=11745&p=64037 Hobie have added a retainer on the TI's. |

the noodle is a great idea. Not only will it keep your screws in, it will keep the dirt out while in transit! |

In the following post, Mitch suggests we check the big mast turnbuckles inside the bow hatch. viewtopic.php?f=71&t=29680&p=119317&hilit=+frame#p119317 Posted by whosyerbob on Mon Aug 16, 2010 8:52 am. Mine were loose too. Also, several members are reporting excessive wear with their new trampoline's buckles. Please add an issue that most of us are experiencing when using the rudder downline. Excessive rudder helm with rudder downline tension. Rudder downline tension forces the steering to turn to one side. Removing all rudder downline tension (with use of bungee cords or bolts to hold down the rudder) eliminates the helm issue and steering lines are balanced again. |

Thanks Marc. Added turnbuckles, and tramp buckles, to the Hobie Island Checklist. Already had an Issue for "Rudder not locking down"... this actually covers a range of probs, could do with some extra links when I find the right posts. |
