The rubber seals of my Tandem Island's front hatch and its cover are peeling.

Cementing it back on didn't work at all. Anyone else notice this issue? Any suggestions?

This gasket is glued with "Super Glue".

If you are not able to get it back on yourself. Contact your dealer for help or a replacement.

Forget "Goop" and other marine sealers. Super glue works great.

It should hold till you can purchase new seals. These are not expensive.

Thanks Matt and NOHUHU.

The first crazy glue application from the factory didn't hold very well. The peeling occurred within the first 6 months after it was built. I doubt a second application of glue will hold it on that much better. There just isn't much plastic available at the edge of the hatch and cover to glue the gasket material. Unless of course, I am glueing it to the wrong edges of the plastic.

I believe all AI/TIs experience this issue with their front hatch gaskets. Has anyone found a better rubber gasket product that actually fits snug onto the plastic rims of the hatch and cover?

Mine has failed too. :(

I was thinking about trying neoprene glued on the inside of the cover. Anyone think this might work?

Ditto, had to glue top and bottom gasket last weekend.

So these are all TI seals failing?

Damm. Probably just the glue.

Are they giving out at any particular contact point, perhaps due to greater flexing of the bow??

I opened the front hatch and the seal and came apart from the seal. Then the next week the same thing happened to the bottom part. I used medium thickness super glue. I think it is holding ok. If it comes apart again, I will need to find a different glue.

G'day Mates,
The glue that I have used, has worked perfectly.
It's expensive but it works on difficult to glue rubbers.
Loctite 424. You will have to store it in the fridge for long shelf life.
Cheers,
Mark.

Superglue/Krazyglue seems to be the only glue that works with these materials and water contact. I don't remember AI owners complaining excessively about this. Maybe it is a TI factory problem.

It's the same material. This is a supplied part, not glued by the Hobie factory. The stuff is used for door seals and the like. You have to be careful about brushing the gasket to the side when loading gear into the hatch. I believe this to be the major cause of failures.

Marine Goop was recommended to me by my local Hobie dealer. I put it on back in September and it's been successfully holding ever since.

Mitch, my front seals were completely detached when I purchased my used AI. I applied Marine Goop and then an expensive 3M marine adhesive and neither held for long.

The other problem was that Goop is horribly messy to apply on delicate repair jobs, requires clamping and takes forever to cure. Then it remains slightly tacky.

Whereas, a thin bead of ethyl cyanoacrylate (Krazy Glue) bonds instantly, is watertight and provides a better high. 8)

I keep a tube of Krazy Glue gel on the boat now for field repairs. (You can seal a flesh wound with it too).

BTW, the Loctite 424 that redclaw likes so much is cyanoacrylate based - same thing as Krazy Glue.

I used something like this one:
http://www.palmlabsadhesives.com/cyanoa ... ughened#de

I also have used the accelerator, which saves some curing time: http://www.palmlabsadhesives.com/turbo- ... ccelerator

Btw, you can find these things at hobby stores like Hobby Lobby, Michaels etc.

Huh... Interesting. Mine went on without any problem and has stayed on so far.
