Has anyone replaced the gasket on the front hatch of an Adventure Island? Mine has split into two parts and I haven't been able to glue them together. |

Try super glue. Replacements area available as listed in the parts catalog. |

I recently took the advice here: viewtopic.php?f=69&t=10950&p=57854&hilit=hatch+cover+glue+bulb#p57854 and installed this stuff (automotive windshield gasket material) as replacement for the seal on the forward hatch of my AI. Seems like in all respects a superior solution to the stock Hobie seal. I might glue the stuff in at some point but so far it doesn't appear to require glue -- it's sort of self adhering, kind of clips on. Its been on the hatch for a month with no problems and no water shipped, but I haven't yet been out in conditions where a lot of water was breaking over the bow. Jim L. described this in a post from Oct 9 2008 and his post gives part numbers for two types of seal material. I ordered them both but used the same type for both the hatch lid and the hatch opening in the boat. Unfortunately I can't identify which of the two I order I used. This is potentially consequential as Jim L. suggests needing both and they come in 25' lengths minimum at about US$80 each, so being able to order just one length would be a benefit. Of course it may be that I'll decide at some point that using both is better. Timo |
