Post subject:  AI will not sail on the port tack

My Hobie Adventure Island (2006 or thereabouts) does not want to sail on the port tack (Wind coming from portside). It will gradually ( over 10- 60 seconds) pull me from a broad reach on the port tack into the wind.

With the sail down, and using the mirage drive, the rudder works just right.
The rudder rotates evenly in response to the rudder lever.
Hence I do not believe it is a rudder problem.

I always sail with the centerboard down.

I have visually checked out the alignment of the amas and they look pretty symmetrical.

I bought the boat from the first owner, and it sailed fine the first 2/3 times.
I am unaware of making any adjustments before this became a problem.

Anyone experienced this issue ?
Anyone with suggestions as to what is going on ?

It sounds like the rudder isn't locked into the down position. You must lock the rudder down hard...if you still have the old lever system to raise and lower the rudder - you need to upgrade to the Island pull string system - any dealer can help you directly - it's a free upgrade (even now 5 years later, we will still help you out!)
