Post subject:  hobie kayak small leak

I'm new to this as i just bought a hobie oasis from 2000 last week. I filled the cavity up with water and noticed a small drip coming from the bottom back. There is a small crack there at the very bottom of the pointed end and there is a small drip coming from that. I know it's not coming from the screw hole. Is there a way to fix this with heat, sealing or any other method? or am I SOL.

It can be permanently sealed by plastic welding. To do a good and effective job does require some knowledge and practice. You might be better off taking it to a Hobie dealer and inquiring. They may, or may not, have someone on board that has done it enough to get good at it.

You can also seal any number of small leaks with GOOP. It's a near permanent fix but not if the area involved is subject to much stress or movement. It won't add any structural strength - it just plugs holes.

But take heart - you're not SOL. Your problem can be fixed by some method.

thanks for the reply. I came back later and saw that the leak had stopped. It was actually coming from the top where the latches are and rolling down onto the bottom. I'm feeling a lot better. I may get some silocone sealant at the screws but it's basically an intact hull thankfully.
