| Post subject: | Water inside paddle - will not drain out |
Not that anyone really uses their paddles much with these boats, but I now have a paddle issue. After returning from my last trip, I noticed I have water stuck in the blades of both sides of my paddle. There are no noticeable cracks, and the water will not drain out anywhere. Has anyone else experienced this, or know how to get the water out? |

Are you sure it's in the blades and not the shaft? I thought the blades were solid. I've had water in the shaft.... as well as water in the mast. If water can get in it should get out again. You just have to experiment with angles and position. I lean them against a wall and slowly rotate until water begins to drain then leave it in that position for a while. |

I'll check, it may be in the shaft. If it is, it's in the very lower part near the blades. The 2 halves are apart, and you can hear and feel water sloshing around inside. In any caae, I was not initially successful getting water out after playing around with them a bit. |

Looking a closer, the paddle shaft appears to terminate inside blade. Then there's a wall, or stopper on the other end, near where the two halves go together. This should keep the water out. However, I can hear water running the length of the shaft from the end where the stopper is, to inside the paddle blade. It's very curious how it got in there. I've tried putting more water in the shaft, but the water level stays steady, and is unable to get past the stopper. How it got in, I don't know, but it's not coming out. My only solution is to drill a hole in the stopper to let the water drain. Of course, this isn't desirable, as this makes water entry more easy while underway. |

Yes, drill or poke a hole if you have too. Then coat with a bit of silicone. Odd that water got past the foam plugs, extended time underwater maybe? Maybe seeping past the glue bond on the paddle blade end? You could blow into the tubes and check that with soapy water. |

I have been getting some water in one of the halfs of the paddle. I left the paddle in the sun all day and the volume went down some. There is no obvious way the water is getting in... |
