End result of a well spent youth ( 4 or 5 fractures of the saMe ankle + innumerable sprains and strains), finally tore ligaments this summer. So, I basically got a rebuild. Remove big nasty bone frags, sew all those ligaments back on and together.
Next week I get to transition to walking!

One thing is, it has given me plenty of time for mods...

Thanks coach.

Yep. You need a new receiver. No big deal to change, but you need to order the old one (for male mast) right?

That's a stress fracture, rather than fatigue. I'd guess the bolt was over tightened or there was a blunt trauma, like hammering or maybe dropping the boat.

Hard to say why this effects your mast retainer clip. (Scratch, scratch).

Maybe it is bent? Maybe the mast ring is slipping. Or maybe the new new cup will cure everything.

No signs of leaking I hope?

No signs of leaking, so at least I have that going for me!

Ugh...the new receiver doesn't sit all the way down far enough on the little nubs to let the bolt bite on the stud. it doesn't need much-- only an 1/8" or so. I was thinking of taking out the dremel and sanding back the inside of the receiver base just enough to get it to sit down.

Before i break out the dremel on the receiver thought i would check in with the experts here...what say you? crazy or sane?

The reason it broke is that there is no support under the receiver forward base. You run the nut down very tight and you'll pop the receiver for sure. There's nothing under that point but space.

For another reason I had my receiver on the AI out and I installed a short spacer on the stud before I put the receiver back in place so I can tighten the nut against the spacer instead of against an empty space.

Right now i can't even get the nut started- as the stud doesn't poke up enough. Seems like the receiver doesn't seat all the way down. There's two little plastic nubs that the receiver centers on, one of which has the stud poking out of it.
the receiver then has a little opening on the underside that fits over those nubs.
I was going to widen that opening on the receiver a bit to help it seat over the nub better.

Thoughts?

Gulp. Do what you gotta do. Keep things as tight as you can.

I'd change out the screw to the new stronger stainless steel part, as long as your doing this repair.

Looks like a stainless screw in there, slotted top...just back it out and screw the new one in?

Correct. With some loctite.

I think the slotted top screw is the new style - the old one required an allen wrench.

Slotted sounds right.

Try part numbers:
88991215 SET SCREW, TI MAST V BRACE 1/4-20 THRD RLD, 17-4 SS
8050111 NUT 1/4-20 HX NYLOCK

Unless there's a different part # for the AI.
