Bent bow on a new tandem, just received via truck shipping, inspected within an hour of receipt. The photo tells it all. Has anyone seen this? To me it looks like a design flaw in the bow, and there should be a block inside, to which the U-shaped metal piece should be through bolted.

Next question - to repair or reject the shipment. I have seen the video by Hobie on how to repair a dent in the side. This is a bend, fore to aft, in a very short length, not a dent. I think it would always have a weak line in the concavity of the bend, even if repair with hot water were to be successful.

Hopefully the vendor will replace the tandem hull.

Thanks,
DJ

Unfortunately, you have to reject the shipment. You don't want to take possession of a damaged boat. Let Hobie figure out what happened.

BTW, I can't see your pictures. I've posted step by step instructions for posting pictures here: https://www.hobie.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=70&t=7276&start=975

I'm thinking that's too far gone to repair, carriers have insurance for that kind of stuff. I'm pretty sure Hobie keeps a small reserve of replacement hulls, for shipping mishaps, and warranty replacements. I suspect the paperwork for the replacement hull has to originate from the shipper to Hobie I would think.
I got a replacement hull once, it took about a week for it to get to the Florida dealer from California.

That is freight damage. You hopefully have noted the packaging damage on the Bill of Lading upon receipt? That allows you to claim the damage from the freight company. Unfortunately, this is not a Hobie Factory issue we can help with. We do not package the product to be shipped via LTL. If a dealer is re-shipping to a consumer... they need to package for that purpose.

Contact your dealer for help with this process.

Vendor replaced the hull, but insisted on replacing the entire order, not just the damaged hull -- although I asked the vendor's agent to send only the hull. Repacking and shipping cost me untold time and trouble. Neither the vendor nor the shipper offered help or materials for returning the unneeded items -- amas, akas, drives, etc. C'est la vie!

Fortunately, the boat sails just fine. I'm looking forward to getting out on the water.
